    NorthBay Healthcare Accreditations

    NorthBay Healthcare’s hospitals, programs and services such as the NorthBay Cancer Center, NorthBay Health at Home and NorthBay and VacaValley Clinical Laboratories are accredited by respected professional organizations. Accreditation helps the staff ensure they continue to meet stringent professional standards and assures consumers that their health care provider considers quality care to be the highest priority.     Silver Honors from American Heart Association

    NorthBay Healthcare earned the Silver Achievement Award from the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association in 2013.


    The award is given to programs that achieve at least 12 consecutive months of 85 percent or higher adherence to all “Get With The Guidelines Stroke Achievement Indicators” to improve quality of patient care and outcomes.
    There are two kinds of stroke—one caused by a blockage, the other by a hemorrhage. When NorthBay went live with Phase II in November 2012, it allowed Emergency Department staff to use clot-dissolving medication on patients with strokes caused by blockages, and admit them for ongoing care.


    Patients suffering hemorrhagic strokes were routinely sent to Mercy Neurological Institute in Sacramento, at least until this spring. The arrival of neurological surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Dembner meant that NorthBay could treat hemorrhagic strokes, sending only the most critical cases to Sacramento.


    NorthBay continues to partner with Mercy, using InTouch robots to connect physicians and patients in Solano County with Mercy neurological physicians in Sacramento for real-time consultations when necessary.

     

    The Joint Commission – NorthBay Medical Center and VacaValley Hospital  

    NorthBay Medical Center and VacaValley Hospital are accredited by the Joint Commission (TJC). TJC accreditation is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards. To earn and maintain accreditation, an organization must undergo an on-site survey by a TJC survey team at least every three years.

    The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits nearly 18,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. An independent, not-for-profit organization, TJC is the nation’s predominant standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. Since 1951, TJC has developed state-of-the-art, professionally based standards and evaluated the compliance of health care organizations against these benchmarks.     The Joint Commission - Home Care Accreditation

    NorthBay Health at Home is accredited by The Joint Commission’s Home Care Accreditation Program, established in 1988 to offer a seal of approval to organizations that offer a variety of services in the patient or client’s home. NorthBay Health at Home is also a Medicare-certified home care program.

    The Joint Commission - Pathology and Clinical Laboratory Accreditation Program 

    NorthBay Medical Center and VacaValley hospital's Clinical Laboratories are accredited by the Joint Commission's Pathology and Clinical Laboratory Accreditation Program.  The Joint Commission has been evaluating and accrediting hospital laboratory services since 1979 and has accredited almost 2,000 organizations providing laboratory services.  The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid officially recognize the Joint Commission Laboratory Accreditation Program as meeting the requirements of CLIA '88.  Joint Commission Standards address processes that follow laboratory specimens through the laboratory from specimen collection to result reporting, focusing on the provision of high quality and safe laboratory services.
     

    Society of Chest Pain Centers - NorthBay Medical Center

    NorthBay Medical Center is the first and only accredited Chest Pain Center in Solano County. The coveted three-year designation was awarded by the Society of Chest Pain Centers in August 2009 after a rigorous audit of emergency services and interviews with staff and Solano County Emergency Medical Service workers. There are only 17 California hospitals, and 500 worldwide, that have earned this special designation. The Chest Pain Center’s protocol-driven and systematic approach to patient management allows physicians to reduce time to treatment during the critical early stages of a heart attack, when treatments are most effective, and to better monitor patients when it is not clear whether they are having a coronary event. Such observation helps ensure that a patient is neither sent home too early nor needlessly admitted.


    American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer – NorthBay Cancer Center

    The NorthBay Cancer Center was accredited by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer in 1996 and it was the first non-military accredited cancer program in Solano County. The Commission on Cancer is a standard-setting organization established in 1922. It is dedicated to improving health care for people with cancer. More than 1400 cancer programs across the nation are accredited by the Commission on Cancer. The approved programs submit cancer data to the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB), a joint project of the Commission and the American Cancer Society.

    Ten areas of each cancer program are evaluated through the survey process of the Commission on Cancer:

    • Institutional and programmatic resources
    • Program management and administration
    • Clinical management
    • Inpatient and outpatient care
    • Supportive and continuing care
    • Research
    • Quality management and improvement
    • Cancer data management
    • Public education, prevention and detection
    • Professional education and staff support

    American Diabetes Association (ADA) -  Center for Diabetes & Endocrinology

    Center for Endocrinology & Diabetes, A NorthBay Affiliate, has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association for Quality Self-Management Education. 

    American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) - Center for Diabetes & Endocrinology, A NorthBay Affiliate

    The Diabetes Self-Management Education Program at the Center for Endocrinology and Diabetes, A NorthBay Affiliate, is nationally accredited by the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE). It is one of only two programs to earn certification in California.

    NorthBay Healthcare Awards

    NorthBay Healthcare was deemed Business of the Year in 2009 by the Fairfield-Suisun Chamber of Commerce, and also earned the coveted Spirit of Solano Award for outstanding community service. Sponsored by WestAmerica Bank, the 14th annual Spirit of Solano program cites the civic and social contributions of businesses. Praised for its involvement in the community outside the walls of its hospital, NorthBay was cited for its sponsorship of a civic leadership program, the city's new aquatics center and the Run 4 Good 5k that raised $25,000 for the Matt Garcia Youth Center in 2009. NorthBay was also applauded for its social service programs such as the Adult Day Center, and its ABC Clinic for low-income expectant mothers.
