Oh, What a RIDE!

r2d2videoMore than 150 riders came together to participate in the first-ever NorthBay Healthcare Ride to Defeat Diabetes – or R2D2, as organizers called it.

In doing so, they raised more than $4,000 for the NorthBay Center for Diabetes & Endocrinology, according to organizer Ken McCollum, vice president of Human Resources.

“It was a great first year. And the committee did an excellent job, planning the routes, organizing volunteers, handling registration, set-up, lunch and every little detail,” says Ken. “They’re a phenomenal group.”

Participants could choose from three rides with a 10-mile, a 25-mile and a 60-mile route. The most popular was the 10-mile ride, which was perfect for families and children. Leading that ride with much enthusiasm was Colin Kent, 10, a Type 1 Diabetic, and Dr. Deborah Murray, medical director for the Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology.
