New Leaders In; Longtime Chair Steps down

Sixteen physicians have agreed to step up to two-year terms as department chairs and vice chairs for the NorthBay Healthcare Group Medical Executive Committee, as one long-time chair steps down. After a 22-year stint in leadership positions, most recently as chair of pediatrics, Dr. Richard Bell has decided to step down. According to Diane Irby, director of Medical Staff Staff Relations, a recognition of Dr. Bell’s longtime commitment to leadership is being planned for a future MEC meeting.

 

“These physician leaders volunteer their time to provide oversight of department-based functions such as credentialing, proctoring, and quality improvement activities,” explains Diane. Here are the new chair and vice chairs:

 

Department of Anesthesia -----------  

•  Godfrey Wong, M.D., Department of Anesthesia chair, has served as chair since 2011. He earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. He completed his internship at St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical School in Jamaica, N.Y., and a residency at the University of Maryland Medical Systems in Baltimore. w James Jaber, M.D, Department of Anesthesia, vice chair is newly elected. He earned his medical degree from the University of California at San Francisco.He completed his internship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and a residency at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.  Department of Diagnostic Imaging 

•  James Bronk, M.D., Department of Diagnostic Imaging chair, has served as chair since 2007. He earned his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine, Buffalo. He completed his internship at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Washington and a residency at the University of Washington Hospitals in Seattle. He completed a residency in diagnostic radiology and a fellowship in diagnostic radiology with emphasis on Computed Tomography,Ultrasound and Magnetic Resonance at Stanford Hospital, Stanford University.

•  Florian Ploch, M.D., Department of Diagnostic Imaging vice chair, has served as vice chair since 2009. He earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee in Memphis. He completed his internship at the Louisiana State Medical Center Confederate Memorial Hospital, Shreveport, La., and his residency in radiation therapy at the University of California San Francisco, Mount Zion Hospital and Medical Center, San Francisco.

 

Department of Emergency Medicine -----------  

Seth Kaufman, M.D., Department of Emergency Medicine chair, has served as chair since 2010. He earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco. He completed a residency in emergency medicine at the University of Chicago.

•  Caesar Djavaherian, M.D., Department of Emergency Medicine vice chair, has served as vice chair since 2010. He earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester, School o f Medicine, Rochester, Md. He completed his internal medicine internship at St. Luke’s–Roosevelt Hospital Center, New York and his emergency medicine residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital Cornell Campus.

 

Department of Family Practice ----------- 

•  Terrell B. Van Aken, M.D., Department of Family Practice chair, has served as chair since 2007. He earned his medical degree from Wayne State University in Detroit. He completed his family practice internship and residency from Bon Secours Hospital in Gross Pointe, Mi.

Ehsan Ghods, D.O., Department of Family Practice vice chair, has served as vice chair since 2009. He earned his osteopathic medicine degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He completed his internship and residency at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc, Mi., in family practice.Department of Internal Medicine w Pushkar Pandey, M.D., Department of Internal Medicine chair, is newly elected. He earned his medical degree from St. John’s Medical College in Bangalore, India. He completed his internship at New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y., and his residency at New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn. 

•  Micheal Bunuan, D.O., Department of Internal Medicine vice chair, is newly elected. He earned his osteopathic medicine degree at the Kirksville Collegeof Osteopathic Medicine, A.T. Still University of Health Sciences, Kirksville, Mo. He completed his internship and residency at KCOM/St. John Detroit Riverview Hospital, Detroit.

 

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology ----------- 

•  Gary Matsumura, M.D., Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology chair, is newly elected, however he has served in this role in the past. He earned his medical degree from Loma Linda University in Loma Linda. He completed his residency at White Memorial Medical Center. 

•  Andrew Lin, M.D., Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology vice chair, has served as vice chair since 2009. He earned his medical degree from Chicago Medical School Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, Chicago. He completed his internship and residency at Harbor University of California Los Angeles Medical Center in Torrance.

 

Department of Pediatrics  ----------- 

 • Steven Gwiazdowski, M.D., Department of Pediatrics chair is newly elected, however he has served in this role in the past. He earned his medical degree from the medical college of Virginia, Richmond, Va. He completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at David Grant Medical Center, Travis Air Force He completed a fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal medicine at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. 

 •  Chad Tarter, M.D., Department of Pediatrics vice chair, has served in this role since 2009. He earned his medical degree from Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, Hershey, Pa. He completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at David Grant Medical Center.

 

Department of Surgery -----------  

 •  Pete Zopfi, D.O., Department of Surgery chair, has served as chair since 2009. He earned his osteopathic medicine degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona. He completed his internship and general surgery residency at Grandview Hospital and Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio.

 • Haaroon Mojaddidi, M.D., Department of Surgery vice chair, has served as vice chair since 2011. He earned his medical degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He completed his internship and residency in general surgery at the University of California San Francisco, East Bay in Oakland.
