New Day Scheduled for Cancer Support Group
Recently diagnosed with cancer, in treatment or coping with its aftermath? It can be a confusing and emotional time, and the NorthBay Cancer Center wants to help.
The NorthBay Cancer Center has created a Cancer Support Group. The first meeting was held on Thursday, Sept. 5, but subsequent ones will be moved to Tuesdays to avoid a conflict.
“Cancer patients often find that connecting with others who are going through a similar situation can help to reduce stress and improve quality of life,” says Magi Philpot, oncology certified medical Social Worker for NorthBay Cancer Center.
Magi will co-lead the groups with Keni Horiuchi, R.N., oncology clinical nurse and nurse navigator with the Cancer Center.
Support groups offer more than emotional support, she adds. They also provide resources and education, as well as advice from other members on how to cope.
The group will meet from 1 to 2 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of every month, starting in October, at the NorthBay Women’s Health Resource Conference Room, located on the first floor of 1860 Pennsylvania Ave. in Fairfield. For more information, call Magi at 646-4045.
