About Jason Marengo

Professional Statement

Surgical Oncology

A diagnosis of breast cancer can be overwhelming. Not only are there treatment decisions, you also have choices when it comes to breast reconstruction. Until now, cancer surgery came first, and plans for reconstruction followed at a later date.

I feel that I am in a unique position to provide a truly comprehensive surgical plan to my patients. Breast reconstruction is often only discussed in the context of recreating a breast after mastectomy. I believe that reconstructive principles should be applied to every breast procedure, from the smallest breast biopsy to recreating a breast after mastectomy. The techniques classically used in breast lift, breast reduction, and breast augmentation, provide me with the tools to not only remove a breast cancer, but through careful placement of incisions and the use of breast-shaping techniques, restore and in some cases improve the breast's appearance.

The principle here is to remove the cancer with as little collateral damage to existing breast structures as is oncologically safe. This is a marriage of surgical oncology and plastic reconstructive principles, often referred to as oncoplastic surgery, but in my case done by a single surgeon with dual oncology and reconstructive training.

Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery

After completing a Fellowship in Surgical Breast Oncology, I went on to complete a second residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and a second Fellowship in Aesthetic Surgery. Double board certification and double fellowship training has given me unique insight into the surgical treatment of breast cancer as well as breast reconstruction.

In addition to caring for patients with breast cancer, I have an elective plastic surgery practice that includes: Breast reduction, Breast Augmentation, Breast Lift, Breast Revisional Surgery and Body Contouring (Abdominoplasty , Liposuction, Post-Bariatric Body Contouring).

The experience was good since he explained what was happening with my diagnosis

He pulled me right across the parking lot into the emergency room because I was breathing and couldn't hardly breathe. So he did the best thing possible. I stayed in the hospital for a few days, and now I'm home, so I guess I need to reschedule an appointment. So thank you.

He did an excellent job. He was good after my accident and everything after follow-up. I have not been able to breathe properly or smell or taste for over a decade. Maybe the accident was a blessing in disguise because I forgot what it was like to taste food and to smell things. And he went out of his way. It was a lot of pain having the stuff removed from my nose. And he gave me all the time I needed to recover after the one nostril and then took time to let me recover and did the second one. He knows what he's doing and he did a very good job.
