Eric Hassid, MD
Functional Medicine,Neurological Rehabilitation
"My many years of practicing medicine have taught me that true healing occurs from the patient more so than from the health care provider. The role of the health care team is to engage, educate, and empower the patient in order to facilitate a path to optimal health.Functional medicine addresses the factors that are the underlying cause of many diseases, and guides patients on the road to restored health and vitality. Some of those factors include nutrition, stress, sleep quality, activity level, hormonal stability and environmental exposures, such as smoking, heavy metals, pesticides, etc.
"I have studied functional medicine for 10 years and firmly believe in the body's inherent ability to be restored to good health. My goal is to work in concert with the patient's primary care doctor. For example, a patient diagnosed with pre-diabetes may be referred to me for three or four months to work on core issues of health. This could include learning how diet and exercise can reverse the pre-diabetes diagnosis.
"For many patients with chronic diseases, education in functional medicine practices can make a big impact on their daily living and quality of life. As a functional neurologist, I have cared for patients with complex conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, and those who suffer migraines. I understand the challenges these individuals face. With the additional expertise in functional medicine, I am able to help patients maximize their core strengths by identifying their barriers to good health and creating a healing internal and external environment.
"With an emphasis on natural healing agents, I can help patients with a wide variety of disorders such as insulin resistance, hormone imbalances, fatigue, headaches, mood disorders and optimal aging concerns."
