JCAHO – NorthBay Medical Center and VacaValley Hospital
NorthBay Medical Center and VacaValley Hospital are
accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
(JCAHO). JCAHO accreditation is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality
that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance
standards. To earn and maintain accreditation, an organization must undergo an
on-site survey by a JCAHO survey team at least every three years.
JCAHO evaluates and accredits nearly 18,000 health care
organizations and programs in the United States. An independent, not-for-profit
organization, JCAHO is the nation’s predominant standards-setting and
accrediting body in health care. Since 1951, JCAHO has developed
state-of-the-art, professionally based standards and evaluated the compliance of
health care organizations against these benchmarks. Additional information may
be obtained through their website at
www.jcaho.org.

Cancer is a standard-setting organization established in 1922. It is dedicated
to improving health care for people with cancer. More than 1400 cancer programs
across the nation are accredited by the Commission on Cancer. The approved
programs submit cancer data to the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB), a joint
project of the Commission and the American Cancer Society.
Ten areas of each cancer program are evaluated through the
survey process of the Commission on Cancer:

- Supportive and continuing care
- Research
- Quality Management and Improvement
