NorthBay Medical Center a Top Performer

NorthBay Medical Center has earned the distinction of Top Performer by The Joint Commission, the nationally recognized accreditor of healthcare organizations. In its report released Nov. 13, the commission gauged the progress of quality improvements in several key areas, including the care of heart attacks, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. No other hospital in Solano County earned quality improvement recognition in all four areas. Sutter Solano Medical Center in Vallejo was acknowledged in three.

No other Solano hospital made the list. Nationwide, there were 1,224 hospitals that made the list, representing about one-third of all Joint Commission-accredited hospitals reporting accountability measure performance data for 2013, according to the organization. It accredited more than 3,300 hospitals nationwide last year.

The Top Performers list is part of The Joint Commission's annual quality and safety report on all accredited hospitals. To become a 2013 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures hospitals must have:

  • Achieved a cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures.
  • Achieved a performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability (when there were at least 30 cases reported).
  • Had at least one core measure set that had a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and within that measure set, all applicable individual accountability measures had a performance rate of 95 percent or above.
