Anyone who needs a full-body X-ray scan can have an edge if they come to NorthBay Health. NorthBay has joined UCSF and Stanford as the only healthcare organization in the area to offer imaging with the latest EOSedge diagnostic imaging platform.

Not a NorthBay Health Patient? No problem, just ask your doctor or chiropractor for a referral.

Reduce your radiation exposure and be more comfortable while getting an X-ray using the EOSedge imaging system.

What is the EOSedge?

EOSedge is a state-of-the-art, low dose 2D/3D full-body radiologic imaging system with the patient’s comfort at the heart of its design. Featuring an open cabin design, EOSedge makes capturing full-body, weight-bearing spine and leg images fast, easy and safe for patients of all ages and sizes.

Scans take less than 25 seconds on average, and patients can sit or stand while receiving them. The system uses two beams to scan the front and side of your body at the same time, eliminating the need for repositioning or holding uncomfortable positions during traditional X-rays.

How EOS imaging reduces radiation exposure

EOSedge is driven by the ALARAr (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principle of radiation dosing. The system uses a unique setting called Flex Dose™, which adjusts the amount of radiation the patient receives along the body. This setting minimizes exposure in areas of the body whenever possible, while still delivering high-resolution images needed for doctors to make treatment decisions — delivering up to an 80 percent reduction in overall radiation used when compared to the same scan without it.

Reducing radiation is a benefit to all patients, but especially to minors and those who require frequent scans for chronic conditions. EOSedge has an additional setting, called Micro Dose, that can reduce radiation exposure to even lower levels. When the system operates on the Micro Dose setting, it emits even less radiation than a standard exam (equivalent to about a day of natural background radiation on Earth)1 and is still capable of producing 3D models and measurements.

Accurate imaging for diagnosis and surgery (when necessary)

EOSedge isn’t only a win for patients – but also for physicians, as standing scans are particularly useful and show more clearly how full weight affects the spine, hips and legs.

The high-quality images from the scans combined with the 3D models and measurements generated, give physicians an unrivaled understanding of a patient’s medical condition and its complexity. The 3D models and software assists surgeons by helping them plan and – in some cases – even simulate surgical procedures to better understand how they will be performed, which is particularly useful in the case of complex spinal surgery.

If you’re a NorthBay patient, ask your doctor if the EOSedge would give you an advantage. If you’re not a NorthBay patient, ask your provider for an order or referral. No appointment needed, just walk in.
