No Shortage of Good Reasons to Join This Ride

August 28, 2017

R2D2 is the Ride To Defeat Diabetes. The Sixth annual event will be held  Sunday, Sept. 10, beginning at VacaValley Hospital. It features 10 mile, 25 mile or 60 mile rides.

I am going to encourage you to ride and give you some very good reasons to do so. Obviously you may ride to support our diabetes programs and I will get back to that.

First, I want to point out that this is an opportunity for people who generally are not comfortable riding on roads to do so in a relatively controlled situation. The roads will still be open to regular traffic but there are a number of advantages to riding during the event.

Riding in numbers is safer. Even if you are not riding with a partner, the fact that there are numerous riders on the same road raises awareness of drivers.

The course will be patrolled by Support vehicles provided by Solano County Office of Emergency Services. If you have any issues such as a flat tire, there is someone out there looking out for you. A member of the bike club rides along and can assist in repairing a flat tire or other mechanical issues.

You won’t get lost! You will receive a turn-by- turn directions sheet, but most people never need to look at it. We will clearly mark the course with arrows that are easy to follow.

Besides nourishing snacks and drinks, you will receive encouragement and support of volunteers.

On top of all of that you will be supporting diabetes programs locally. One of the benefits that some diabetes patients receive is services at the NorthBay Wellness Center. Funds raised by R2D2 are available to create subsidies for patients lacking insurance or income.

There is no lack of good reasons to come out on Sunday, Sept. 10, to ride or support this event. For more information and to sign up, visit:
