Rain Storms Don’t Delay Project

While rain storms are slowing work at NorthBay Medical Center, the project is still on schedule, according to Eric VanPelt, project development manager.

“The rain is slowing us down but fortunately our current activities are not a critical path, which means they don’t affect the end date of the schedule,” he explained. “But a really bad January and February could start to impact us.”

The new addition is expected to open for business in 2019.

Eric said they have lime-treated the soil to create a better water run-off system. This will help the ground dry out faster after a rain. And, several pumps have been installed that can draw thousands of gallons water off the site.

You may also notice the white waterproofing that has been applied to the back of the hospital to protect it from the weather. This is where the new construction will meet the older building.

The current ground work is preparation for a major step forward next month — the arrival of the steel that will frame the project.

USE CAUTION:

  • Do not walk through or drive through construction gates. It is unsafe for anyone but construction personnel to be within the jobsite boundaries.
  • Be aware of your surroundings, including trucks, equipment and added traffic coming and going. Caution your patients and visitors to be alert and aware.
  • Don't cross a barrier even if it is only yellow caution tape. It's barricaded because it's not safe.
  • If you encounter a construction vehicle outside of the barriers, make sure you make eye contact with the driver before entering the vehicle's path of travel.
