Occupational Medicine Profile

Occupational medicine specializes in managing work injury and illness. The specialty also promotes health and productivity for the workers. This is at the heart of why I chose my specialty.

My unique background in business and medicine provides me the tools to navigate the complexities of the field.

I received my master of business administration and public health from the University of North Carolina. I was the chief resident at my occupational medicine residency at Emory University. I have worked both as a management consultant and investment banker.

This background allows me the opportunity to serve as liaison between employer and employee.

I want to support the injured employee to return to a productive and healthy life. This has taught me that the role of a provider extends beyond just the diagnosis. It is humbling to know that there is never one right answer.

I was one of those kids who always wanted to be a doctor. As a child, I recall that my visits to the pediatrician were very important to me. I always found the environment nurturing and affirming, making me feel better no matter what the ailment was or where my injuries were. This is what first attracted me to a career in medicine. And though my work now involves a variety of industrial illnesses and injuries encountered in a working population, creating that connection with my patients is important to me.

I find most satisfaction in my work if, through the partnership with my patient, I help foster a safer work place and decrease future injury risk.

I strive to listen. I am empathic. I understand that I have to put myself in the patient’s shoes. I recognize my role to partner with my patient.

When I am not working, I enjoy hiking. In addition, exploring the international cuisine in the Bay Area makes me very happy. My philosophy is if I can find it at a restaurant, I look forward to the day I can make it at my home kitchen. I am also an avid collector of movie memorabilia with my most prized items being an original release poster of “20,000 League Under the Sea” and the movie program from “Thunderball.”
