In the late 1950s, 256 volunteers began a successful campaign to build a hospital in our community. NorthBay Guild volunteers donate their time and talents working in our hospitals and clinics, raising funds to enhance programs and services, offering support to our community, and giving our patients a little extra TLC.

Our NorthBay Guild is made up of individuals with a genuine desire to make a difference. We encourage all who are willing to give of their time and talents to join the legacy of this incredible group of people. Interested in volunteering? Let’s get the process started by asking a few questions.

What Our Volunteers Do

Volunteers are vital to NorthBay Medical Center and VacaValley Hospital. The following service areas require a commitment of three to four hours a week on a regularly scheduled day.

Volunteers assist the staff in our Vacaville center with all types of recreational activities for the patients. Volunteers in this service area must also complete a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and additional training in working with people with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Activities might include:

  • Baking cookies
  • Watching videos
  • Making seasonal craft projects.

Volunteers staff the desk and offer up-to-date information about Alzheimer's Disease, as well as listings of resources available in Solano County. The volunteers also conduct monthly support group meetings for caregivers of Alzheimer's patients.

Volunteers are part of our NorthBay family and join us when we are out and about in the community. If you are outgoing, friendly and enjoy a fast-paced day, this might be a wonderful way to share your time and talents. Volunteers may:

  • Assist at community health fairs
  • Provide support where communities need a helping hand
  • Act as ambassadors for NorthBay Healthcare

The Emergency Departments are open 24/7/365 and our volunteers in the Emergency Department provide assistance and support to patients' families and hospital staff. Emergency Department volunteers are not involved in medical procedures, however, they may witness some difficult situations. Duties include:

  • Stocking carts and shelves
  • Making up exam rooms
  • Transporting patients
  • Moving records from one unit to another
  • "Care visits" with our patients and families.

If you don't like sitting in one place, consider working on the floor. A Floor Host/Hostess:

  • Offers directions
  • Transports patients
  • Moves records and paperwork from one unit to another
  • Delivers flowers
  • Offers visitors coffee
  • Performs "care visits" with our patients.

Fundraising is one of the vital roles our volunteers have taken on at NorthBay Healthcare. All of the funds raised by our volunteers go to support NorthBay services and programs. Activities include operating the hospital gift shops, as well as coordinating special in-house sales, penny wraps and hosting the most successful Golf Tournament in Solano County.

Volunteers purchase, display and sell new gift items as well as flowers and candy in the gift shops at NorthBay Medical Center and VacaValley Hospital. Our gift shops are run entirely by our volunteers. No previous retail experience is necessary.

Volunteers greet patients and visitors, providing directions and assistance as well as setting the tone for the patient experience. Volunteers may also support other hospital departments by rolling bandages or completing paperwork. If you enjoy being on the front lines and have a friendly disposition, this might be the perfect place for you!

NorthBay welcomes Canine Assisted Therapy at our facilities. We work closely with the local PAWS for Healing Chapter to provide this service in our facilities. If you and your best animal friend are interested in being part of a team trained to work with patients, we would love to talk with you.
