Our Hometown Hero Sees Grand Sites
Longtime NorthBay Healthcare ICU nurse Maureen Allain got to experience a grand adventure, thanks to her selection as a Hometown Hero by Travis Air Force Base.
It was all part of the festivities for Thunder Over the Bay Air Show March 30-31.
Maureen was nominated by NorthBay Healthcare for her role as co-founder of NorthBay Nurse Camp, which is celebrating its 15th year this June. She was able to invite a guest to join her on base during the air show, and she chose Mary Hempen, the now-retired co-founder of Nurse Camp and Nurse Academy, which outreaches to local high school students.
One of the perks of being a Hometown Hero was that Maureen was invited to fly over the San Francisco Bay in a C-17 Globemaster III on March 25. But due to inclement weather, travel plans changed, and the crew instead flew over the Grand Canyon, providing breathtaking views for Maureen and her colleagues.
“What an awesome week,” said Maureen “The flight over the Grand Canyon was spectacular. The sights were gorgeous. We then attended a reception on Friday night in a hanger followed by the air show on Saturday. It was such an honor to be recognized for something you love doing.”
