Heart Health in Focus for February

Posted: February 12, 2020

February is Heart Month, the perfect time to learn about the risks and symptoms of heart disease, what to do if someone is having a heart attack, and what steps to take to avoid heart problems in the future.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Accordingly, NorthBay Healthcare will mark Heart Month with a series of heart-focused outreach efforts designed to increase public awareness and knowledge on heart health issues.

Each Tuesday in February, the NorthBay Facebook page will dedicate its #HealthTipTuesday campaign to heart health information. Each health tip posted during the month will be from one of NorthBay’s Heart & Vascular physicians. Look for the tips at Facebook.com/NorthBayHealthcare.

Also on Facebook, NorthBay emergency medicine physician Blake Cleveland, M.D., has recorded a series of brief videos on heart attacks, the signs and symptoms, risk factors and what to do in a heart emergency. The short videos will run twice a week throughout the month.

In addition, cardiothoracic surgeon Shea Pribyl, D.O., will present a free Doc Talk Live discussion on heart health titled “Five Steps to a Healthier Heart,” at 3 p.m. on Feb. 27 at the VacaValley Wellness Center. Doc Talk Live series talks are open to everyone in the community, regardless of their provider, medical group or insurance.
