More Information Coming on Vaccines

Posted: October 7, 2020

Vaccine development for COVID-19, testing options and the importance of getting your flu shot were the topics of discussion during the latest COVID Chat on Facebook Live with Chief Medical Officer Seth Kaufman, M.D.

During his most recent chat, Dr. Kaufman discussed the fact that multiple companies now have moved their vaccine development into phase three trials, explaining that this means they will involve more people “and will take more time to see if they are safe and effective.” He said the hope is to hear more public information on the vaccines in the next few weeks.

In the meantime, he reminded viewers to make sure they get their flu shots.

“Flu shots are really important this year,” he said. “The flu vaccine will not protect you against COVID but this is not the year to get the flu or to skip the flu vaccine. Let’s not get the flu in the middle of a COVID pandemic.”

He also discussed distribution of rapid antigen tests, saying they are important because they are “fairly affordable and fast and you can have multiple tests over several days.”

Dr. Kaufman’s next half-hour chat will be held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 15 on the NorthBay Facebook page:
