NorthBay Medical Center has once again been recognized as a High Performing Hospital by U.S. News and World Report.

The magazine publishes annual ratings for medical specialties, procedures and conditions designed to assist patients and their doctors in choosing where to receive care for common health disorders and elective procedures.

On the national assessment NorthBay earned “High Performing” ratings for six specific specialty procedures and conditions: COPD, Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Kidney Failure, Pneumonia and Stroke.

The ratings single out care that was significantly better than the national average, as measured by factors such as patient outcomes. “High Performing” is the highest rating U.S. News awards for these types of care.

“These rankings are an outstanding testament to the commitment of our entire patient care team,” said NorthBay Health President and CEO B. Konard Jones. “To be recognized across this broad range of specialties shows our continued commitment to serving our community with the highest level of care. We’re very proud of the physicians, nurses, technicians and staff who dedicate themselves each day to providing compassionate care and advanced medicine, close to home.”

For the seventh year in a row, NorthBay Health’s clinical collaborator, Mayo Clinic, was named the No. 1 hospital in the nation by the magazine. Through its  membership in the Mayo Clinic Care Network, NorthBay’s doctors have special access to Mayo Clinic’s knowledge, resources and expertise.

For the 2022-23 ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals across 20 procedures and conditions. Fewer than half of all hospitals received any High Performing rating, and only four earned this rating in all procedures and conditions.

The U.S. News Procedures and Conditions rating is based entirely on objective measures of quality such as risk-adjusted outcome rates, volume, quality of nursing and other care-related indicators.

NorthBay Medical Center also had seven specialties and procedures that were recognized for the standard of care delivered: back surgery, colon cancer surgery, diabetes, heart bypass surgery, hip fracture, hip replacement and knee replacement.

“When patients are considering their options for care, the Best Hospitals ratings are designed to help them identify hospitals that excel in the kind of care they may need,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News. “A hospital that’s earned a High Performing rating in a service may be a good option for patients in need of that service and their medical professionals to consider.”
