NorthBay Takes #OurDocTalk Chats to Facebook Video

Facebook chats with NorthBay doctors will take another step forward this month — via live streaming video.

Urologist Herkanwal Khaira, M.D., will be the first NorthBay doctor to participate in #OurDocTalk on Facebook Live at 3 p.m. on June 14.

#OurDocTalk, is a series of Facebook conversations designed to connect NorthBay doctors with the community to answer questions on a variety of health issues. Interested followers who visit NorthBay’s Facebook page (Facebook.com/NorthBayHealthcare) will be able to post their questions and comments and the doctor will reply in real time. Questions can also be submitted in advance to Robin.Miller@NorthBay.org.

In the past these chats have been text-based with people posting their questions in advance and the doctors logging in at an appointed time to type out their answers. Dr. Khaira will answer questions on everything from kidney stones to the new UroLift procedure he offers for men with BPH (enlarged prostate) during his half-hour live video chat.

While NorthBay Facebook fans can watch the Facebook Live chat as it happens, the chat will also live on as a post on the NorthBay Facebook page and people will be able to visit NorthBay.org later and find the video available for viewing.

This first attempt at live streaming video doesn’t mark an end to the text-based chats we’ve been doing. We’ll return to the text format for the future, with just occasional presentations via Facebook Live.
