Happy Anniversary, HealthSpring!

NorthBay HealthSpring Fitness continues to celebrate its second anniversary in a big way, with membership appreciation projects, membership recruiting events and even some new classes.

A new poster in the lobby this month celebrates Mercedes Stubbs, a "graduate" of the Movement is Medicine program. He has recovered from a cardiac arrest and turned to the team at HealthSpring Fitness to help him get his life back on track. Now he serves as an inspiration to members of his evening spin class.

Next up will be the Miller twins - a pair of 4-year-olds who overcame their fear of the water and now love to splash around and learn new skills.

Learn to Be Happy

A couple of specialty classes are available in August and September.

"Becoming Happy through Mindful Meditation," is a daylong workshop with Tina Clay, M.A., being offered on Saturday, Aug. 18.

The class, which runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., will explore what it means to be happy and how the practice of mindfulness can be used to create more happiness. The day will include periods of guided and walking meditation, with ample time for discussion and self-reflection.

No prior meditation experience is needed to attend the class. Cost is $60 for members, and $75 for nonmembers.

The class will meet in the first-floor conference rooms.

To register for the class, call (707) 624-8080.

Sleep Yoga is a Thing!

Want to learn the ancient practice of Yoga Nidra, aka sleep Yoga?

A one-day training with Megan Kramer is being offered from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7 on the second-floor of HealthSpring Fitness.

Yoga Nidra provides full body relaxation with a deep, meditative state of consciousness. Participants will be guided into deep relaxation through inner awareness, leaving the class feeling revitalized and restored.

Participants are advised to bring a blanket, socks and to wear comfortable clothing.

Cost is $35 for members and $40 for nonmembers.
