Classic Event Raises Funding

Luck was with NorthBay Healthcare on Friday the 13th, as more than 150 golfers, volunteers and staff assembled for a lovely day of golf and fundraising at the NorthBay Guild's 35th annual Golf Classic tournament.

In fact, the day was blessed with balmy weather and a gorgeous course nestled among Napa vineyards. Friendly Guild and NorthBay volunteers invited golfers to join in on fun and amusing activities at many of the holes.

The golfers traveled to Eagle Vines Golf Club for this year's tournament. They were greeted by volunteers wearing black cat T-shirts, in a nod to the Friday the 13th date, and invited to sample breakfast burritos, Mimosas and Bloody Mary's at a putting contest before the shotgun start sent them on their way around the course.

"Funds raised at this year's tournament will allow NorthBay Healthcare to purchase medical equipment supporting our mission of advanced medicine," noted Jane Hilliard, director of Volunteer Services. "We're very grateful for the support that helps us continue to make a difference for our patients and our community."

Golfers were treated to such things as CPR demonstrations and sips of a "defibrillator" beverage at one hole, while at another they could sample Jell-o shots in specimen cups.

At other holes they could get a chair massage, courtesy of HealthSpring Fitness; take a chance on hitting a Hole in One to win a brand new car; participate in a 50/50 raffle; or have their golf swing analyzed by a professional.

Lunch, served up in generous portions by volunteers from Kinder's, awaited golfers and volunteers at Hole #1, while hot dogs were served by another group of volunteers at Hole #12.

Other friendly competitions included a "closest to the hole" opportunity, Longest Drives for men and women, and the putting contest.

After the rounds were complete, golfers were invited back to a tent outside the clubhouse for dinner and awards.

"We couldn't have asked for a more perfect Friday the 13th," Jane added. "Thank you to our sponsors, our donors, and our NorthBay family who volunteered to make it perfect. Mark your calendars for July 12, 2019; we're ready to do it again!"
