Professional Profile

Given the emergent nature of my specialty, I am very empathetic to the fact that, unlike many other disciplines in medicine, parents don't get to choose me.

Knowing this, I realize that earning parents' trust and respect is an important part of my relationship with them. To do this I always include parents in the decision making process so they know they have a say.

Additionally, I will always go the extra mile to communicate -- promising parents that I will reach out to them if anything significantly changes during the course of the hospitalization and to be very open and honest about progress or setbacks during this very stressful time.

Finally, I reassure them that I will do whatever it takes to get the best possible outcomes for their babies.

I consider all the newborns that come into our Neonatal Intensive Care unit to be "family" and I cherish the privilege and responsibility that mothers and fathers entrust in me.

My greatest satisfaction as a neonatologist occurs yearly during our NICU reunion party. Seeing how our patients are growing and developing every year is so heart-warming and fulfilling. I feel so fortunate to be a small part of their incredible journey!
