Professional Profile

As a speech-language pathologist who specializes in voice and swallowing disorders, I am well-prepared to care for patients in a well-rounded, holistic approach. I strive to provide exceptional care through evidenced based practice and counseling, but most of all, through human kindness and my love for helping others.

Beginning my undergraduate schooling at Thiel College in western Pennsylvania, I didn’t know what I wanted to pursue as a career but I knew that I wanted to help people. I considered teaching and psychology but I also wanted something in the medical field. The profession of speech-language pathology captures all of my interests. I minored in psychology, which has greatly improved by ability to treat patients as a whole.

After completing my master’s degree at the University of Arizona, I worked for a hospital system in Tucson. It was there that I developed my skills across the continuum of care (inpatients to outpatient, infants to geriatrics) with a variety of diagnoses. I also honed my skills to become a specialist in voice disorders and swallowing disorders.

Having a singing/performance background myself allows me to treat professional voice users (singers, actors, and anyone who uses his/her voice for a living) while understanding the lingo.

My love of the field has also blossomed into an interest in teaching students in the field. In addition to student interns, I have taught the Swallowing Disorders class graduate program at Sacramento State University for many years and also taught the voice disorders class at Sacramento State University and Neuroanatomy for the Speech Pathologist at San Jose State University.

Outside of work, I enjoy theater (watching and performing at the professional level), singing, and exercise. My overall love of food also comes in handy as a “swallow therapist.”
