In the late 1950s, 256 volunteers began a successful campaign to build a hospital in our community. NorthBay Health volunteers donate their time and talents working in our hospitals and clinics, raising funds to enhance programs and services, offering support to our community, and giving our patients a little extra TLC.

Is This Program Right for You?
The College Student Volunteer Program is best suited for students who value service, reliability, and meaningful human connection. While this role is non-clinical, it offers an opportunity to gain exposure to a hospital environment, observe interdisciplinary teamwork, and support patients and families during vulnerable moments.
If you are seeking hands-on clinical experience, short-term volunteer service, or academic credit, this program may not be the right fit.
What Our Volunteers Do
Volunteers play a vital role at NorthBay Health. The following service areas represent just a few of the volunteer opportunities available and require a commitment of three to four hours per week on a regularly scheduled day.
Volunteers staff the desk and offer up-to-date information about Alzheimer's Disease, as well as listings of resources available in Solano County. The volunteers also conduct monthly support group meetings for caregivers of Alzheimer's patients.
The Emergency Department operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Volunteers assigned to the Emergency Department provide non-clinical assistance and compassionate support to patients, families, and hospital staff.
While Emergency Department volunteers do not participate in medical procedures, they may witness emotionally challenging situations. Applicants should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and interacting with individuals during times of stress.
Duties may include:
- Stocking carts and shelves
- Preparing exam rooms between patient use
- Transporting patients by wheelchair
- Delivering records or materials between units
- Providing supportive “comfort visits” with patients and families
Volunteers in this role are often the first point of contact for patients and visitors, helping to create a welcoming and supportive first impression. Information Desk Greeter Volunteers provide wayfinding assistance, answer general questions, and help set the tone for a positive patient experience throughout the facility.
This role also supports the Security team by serving as an additional point of awareness at the information desk and promptly notifying staff of any concerns or safety issues.
If you enjoy being on the front lines, engaging with people, and offering a friendly, calm presence, this may be an excellent volunteer opportunity for you.
The Pawsitive Companionship Program provides comfort, connection, and emotional support to patients, visitors, and staff through certified therapy dog visits. Volunteers in this program help create moments of calm and joy within the hospital environment.
To participate, volunteers must have their own dog and meet all requirements established by our program partner, Alliance of Therapy Dogs. Both the volunteer and dog must successfully complete certification and evaluation prior to placement.
Pawsitive Companionship Volunteers work as a handler–dog team and are expected to:
- Adhere to hospital policies and infection prevention standards
- Follow visit guidelines appropriate to each care area
- Demonstrate strong communication, professionalism, and situational awareness
This role requires a consistent weekly commitment and a high level of reliability to ensure safe, meaningful interactions for all involved.
