NorthBay named top provider for uncomplicated maternity care, with a Baby-Friendly® distinction since 2014.

NorthBay Health, a leading healthcare system providing advanced and compassionate care to address critical, unmet healthcare needs throughout California’s North Bay, was honored by both U.S. News & World Report and Baby-Friendly USA for its exceptional maternity care, recognizing NorthBay’s commitment to high-quality, compassionate services for both mothers and newborns.

NorthBay Medical Center has earned the highest possible rating, “High Performing”, in U.S. News & World Report's 2025 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care for the fourth consecutive year. This distinction in maternity care for uncomplicated pregnancies helps expectant families make informed decisions about where to seek care and reflects NorthBay’s commitment to providing a safe, compassionate, and quality experience throughout the birth process. U.S. News evaluates how well hospitals perform in this area based on a variety of key factors, including:

  • C-section rates
  • Newborn complication rates
  • Breast milk feeding rates
  • Early elective delivery rates
  • Routine vaginal birth after cesarean delivery (VBAC) rates
  • Episiotomy rates
  • Adherence to federal "birthing-friendly" criteria
  • Tracking and reporting of outcomes across different racial and ethnic groups

This achievement highlights NorthBay’s leadership in addressing critical maternity care needs and closing care gaps throughout the region.

Additionally, NorthBay Medical Center has been Re-Designated as Baby-Friendly®, a highly prestigious designation it has held since 2014, following a thorough review by Baby-Friendly USA. This honor affirms NorthBay Health’s adherence to the highest standards of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies, based on the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, a set of evidence-based practices recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). NorthBay Medical Center is the only hospital in Solano County designated as Baby-Friendly, providing mothers and babies in its community with access to exceptional breastfeeding support, with specially trained staff and designated resources to educate and encourage mothers in their journey.

“Pregnancy and childbirth are key milestones in the lives of many female patients and their families but can be a time when individuals may feel neglected or not supported. At NorthBay Health, we’re addressing challenges with maternal health by providing a compassionate, listening ear and exceptional, patient-centric care at every stage of their journey,” said Heather Troutt, MSN, RN, CNL, RNC, Director of Women and Children’s Services at NorthBay Health. “These well-earned achievements reflect the unwavering commitment of our physicians, nurses, and support staff to ensure the best care and healthiest start for both mother and baby.”
