NorthBay Health Brings Urgent Care to Benicia

Crowd of Benicia community members and NorthBay Health staff gather behind the red ribbon at the Benicia urgent care clinic grand opening.
The new Benicia location offers walk-in visits and same-day appointments—helping residents get the care they need while easing pressure on local emergency rooms.

Today, NorthBay Health’s newest urgent care clinic opened its doors in Benicia, expanding access to convenient, high-quality healthcare for local residents. The significant milestone was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by dozens of community members and public officials – including Benicia Mayor Steve Young. The new clinic seeks to respond to the community’s growing need for timely care closer to home.

CEO of NorthBay Health, Mark Behl, addressing the crowd.“Our physicians, nurses, and staff are here because they believe having local access to healthcare matters. Healthcare should feel human – not rushed, not distant, and not transactional,” said Mark Behl, President and CEO of NorthBay Health. “Benicia is a city that honors its past while being thoughtful about the future. We’re proud to be a part of that future.”

The urgent care clinic aims to serve as a trusted, local option for non-emergency medical needs – reducing travel time, easing strain on emergency rooms, and ensuring residents can receive care when and where they need it. Additionally, it will offer same-day appointments and walk-in care, seven days a week all year-long. Community leaders have long emphasized the value of keeping healthcare local, noting that the new opening will not only strengthen the city’s healthcare infrastructure but also support the overall health and well-being of the community.

Urgent care serves as a critical bridge between primary care and hospital services, helping patients receive the right care at the right time. The Urgent Care Association (UCA) reports that more than 89% of patients wait 30 minutes or less at an urgent care clinic to see a provider, and nearly 70% of urgent care visits are for acute, non-life-threatening conditions that would otherwise be treated in emergency departments.

Benicia Mayor Steve Young addressing the crowd.“One of our city’s most pressing needs has been access to healthcare services,” said Benicia Mayor Steve Young. “The opening of NorthBay Health’s urgent care clinic represents more than a building. It’s a commitment to provide more real-time access to medical care for the Benicia community.”

The Benicia urgent care clinic is a key part of NorthBay Health’s broader commitment to addressing the region’s shortage of medical resources. As part of a $250 million, multi-year investment in ambulatory services, the Benicia location marks the health system’s seventh urgent care clinic – joining NorthBay Health’s expanding network of urgent and primary care facilities in Solano, Napa, and Yolo counties.
