Family Holds Car Wash for Thank You Funds
Posted: December 4, 2020
Donation Arrives on Micro-Preemie Day
Born 11 weeks early, Jordynn Alexander spent almost two months in the NorthBay Neonatal Intensive Care Unit earlier this year. When her parents — Shaquille and Brianna Alexander and grandmother Roberta Sonntag — learned the remote video cameras they relied on so heavily during Jordynn’s stay were purchased with a donation, the grateful family decided to find a way to make a donation, as well. “Those cameras were a lifesaver, a real comfort for them when they weren’t able to be with the baby,” Roberta noted.
The family decided to hold a car wash and T-shirt sale at their auto detailing business on Nov. 14.
Roberta noted that while the six-hour fundraising event drew many supporters, it also drew a surprising amount of extra donations. “Some people bought two washes but only used one, sent in money ahead of time and afterwards,” she said. “We set a goal of $1,000 and because there were so many generous people, we were able to raise $1,709.”
The family asked if they could deliver the donation to NorthBay on Nov. 17 — National Micro-Preemie Day. It was a happy reunion between the family and NICU staff who had cared for Jordynn during her time in the NICU. The team was pleased to see how well she has been progressing, and thrilled to receive the generous donation.
