Blood Drive at Home in Wellness Center

A daylong blood drive at the VacaValley Wellness Center on Friday., Nov. 3, netted nearly 50 units of blood, not bad for NorthBay's first blood drive in two years said Heather Sharpe, BloodSource donor recruitment representative.

BloodSource brought a team of phelobetimists, stations and equipment and took over the first floor conference center.

Sponsors NorthBay Healthcare, NorthBay HealthSpring Fitness and Soroptimist International of Vacaville all set up tables to welcome donors and provide information about their organizations.

A number of blood drive champions - Flo Brown, R.N.; Jennifer Veler, R.N.; Katie Lydon, R.N.; Beth Gladney, R.N.; and Suzanne Clark - joined the HealthSpring team and Soroptimists to generate advance signups and encourage walk-in donors.

Prior to the event, 71 slots were filled by appointment, and although there were a number of no-shows during the day, there were also plenty of walk-in donors, said Heather.
