Virtual Tour Showcases Urgent Care

NorthBay Healthcare Facebook followers were given an inside look at the new NorthBay Urgent Care Center during a special live video streaming #OurDocTalk chat on Jan. 24.

Caesar Djavaherian, M.D., a NorthBay emergency room doctor and co-founder of Direct Urgent Care, led the Facebook Live tour of the new urgent care center in Vacaville's Nut Tree Plaza, and answered questions about the types of services provided at the center and the difference between urgent care and emergency room care.

The urgent care center is a place you can be treated for "anything that's not life-threatening," he explained. "So, obviously, if you think you are having a stroke or heart attack, the emergency room is the right place, but here we can take care of things like broken bones, cuts, cold and flu, nausea, vomiting, urinary tract infections and so forth."

Getting patients the help they need in the appropriate setting is important, he noted.

"Emergency room visits can be 5 to 10 times (more expensive) so you really do want the emergency room to stay for emergencies. The ER is a phenomenal place to go if you are very ill but when you use the ER for non-emergency issues, it makes it difficult and leads to longer wait times," he said.

At NorthBay Urgent Care Center, the wait time and time spent filling out registration paperwork is minimized.

"Our patients can self-register or do it at the front desk. We have iPods so that you don't have to repeat why you are here multiple times to multiple people," he said, adding that patients can register in advance using their smart phones, too.

"We want this to be a welcoming place where our patients can be taken care of as quickly as possible. We know that it is important to them to feel better as quickly as possible," he said.

Dr. Djavaherian then did a walk-through of the urgent care center, showing exam rooms, the lab, and X-ray room.

"We have all the equipment we need to take care of you," he said.

And he had high praise for the commitment NorthBay has made to provide urgent care in a unique setting (a retail shopping area).
