March 30: It’s Our Day for Doctors

NorthBay Healthcare is pleased to celebrate National Doctors' Day March 30, honoring the physicians who care for our patients in hospitals, in primary care, at specialty clinics, treatment centers and at the surgery center all through the year.

President and CEO Konard Jones offered high praise for the team of nearly 400 physicians affiliated with NorthBay Healthcare.

"Thank you for all you do to deliver compassionate care and advanced medicine, close to home," said Konard. "NorthBay has been given the gift to care for and treat the healthcare needs of Solano County residents and it would not be possible without the caring, passion and commitment from our physicians."

Aimee Brewer, president of NorthBay Healthcare Group, agreed. "Our physicians are leading our patient-centered transformation, helping NorthBay Healthcare become the premier health care organization in Solano County," she noted. "We have an incredibly talented group of physicians from top training programs and institutions around the world and we are fortunate to work alongside them."

Seth Kaufman, M.D., said the NorthBay journey to promote physician engagement and leadership has been amazing.

"Last year we established a physician leadership academy with Dr. Stephen Beeson and the Clinician Experience Project. Approximately 50 physician leaders spent countless hours with their teams learning and teaching tools such as flattened hierarchy, team intelligence and feed-forward," said Dr. Kaufman. "We are building on these concepts for 2018; applying these strategies to organizational challenges."

Groups are working on clinician wellness, breastfeeding rates, hospital discharge process, physician candidate interviews, communication between inpatient and ambulatory and more.

"We are incredibly fortunate to have such an engaged and talented group of physicians and physician leaders," said Wayne Gietz, vice president of Ambulatory Services. "It's been amazing to watch our physicians step up and lead many of our Eyes On 2020 strategic initiatives. I believe they represent the 'secret sauce' that will allow NorthBay to remain independent for years to come."

The first Doctors' Day was March 30, 1933, in Winder, GA. The idea came from Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Chas. Almond; and the date was the anniversary of the first use of general anesthetic in surgery, which occurred on March 30, 1842, when Dr. Crawford Long of Barrow County, GA., used ether and then removed a tumor from a patient's neck.
