If you are (or were) a heavy smoker, you probably worry about lung cancer. A lung cancer screening test could save your life. When caught early, survival rates increase dramatically. NorthBay Health Heidi Y Campini Cancer Center and Solano Diagnostics Imaging (SDI) offers lung cancer screenings all year long.
What is a Lung Cancer Screening Test?
Lung cancer screening tests are done using a painless, low-dose CT scan. Screenings are fast, simple and can detect lung cancer at an early stage when it is more likely to be curable. Your scan will be reviewed by a board-certified radiologist and if cancer or a suspicious finding is detected, our team will review the results and communicate the findings with you and your doctor.
Who Should Get Screened?
Smoking is the No. 1 cause of lung cancer. Individuals between the ages of 50 and 80 years, who have a 20-year-pack history of smoking, and are a current smoker or quit less than 15 years ago are at higher risk for developing lung cancer and should consider a lung cancer screening test.
How much does it cost?
Many insurance companies, including Medicare, will cover the costs of screening if the patient meets high-risk criteria.
