Outpatient Diagnostic Imaging

At NorthBay Health, we provide some of the most advanced diagnostic imaging technology available in the region. In addition to our hospital and medical group imaging departments, Solano Diagnostics Imaging (SDI),  offers imaging services in several Fairfield and Vacaville locations.  For your convenience, appointments are available into the evening and on weekends. X-ray and Bone Density exams are done on a walk-in basis (no appointment needed). MRI, Ultrasound, PET, CT, Breast Biopsy, and Mammography exams are done by appointment only.

Introducing the EOSedge. Stand up or sit down, it’s the most comfortable way to get an X-ray.

A computerized tomography (CT) scan combines a series of X-ray images taken from different angles around your body and uses computer processing to create cross-sectional images (slices) of the bones, blood vessels and soft tissues inside your body. CT scan images provide more-detailed information than plain X-rays do.

The EOSedge is a low dose 2D/3D full-body radiologic imaging system with an open cabin design, so the patient can stand or sit during the scan. The system uses two beams to scan the front and side of the body at the same time and typically takes less than 25 seconds to. It uses a low dose of radiation to create the X-ray, yet delivers high-resolution images.

Interventional radiology (IR) is a medical specialty that performs minimally invasive treatments using radiologic imaging for procedure guidance. Interventional radiology treatments have become the primary method of care for a variety of conditions, offering less risk, less pain and less recovery time, compared to open surgery.

MRI uses high-powered magnets and radio waves to produce images of organs and structures inside the body. The MRI scanner is shaped like a building block with a very large hole in the middle where the patient lies on a table during the exam. The picture quality is at its best in the center of the magnet. This is why the part of your body that your doctor needs examined is always placed in the center. The information collected by the MRI scanner is sent to a computer and translated into images.

Nuclear medicine is a medical specialty involving the application of radioactive substances in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Nuclear medicine imaging, in a sense, is "radiology done inside out" or "endoradiology" because it records radiation emitting from within the body rather than radiation that is generated by external sources like X-rays.

A positron emission tomography (PET) scan is an imaging test that helps reveal how your tissues and organs are functioning. A PET scan uses a radioactive drug (tracer) to show this activity. This scan can sometimes detect disease before it shows up on other imaging tests.

Medical ultrasound (also known as diagnostic sonography or ultrasonography) is a diagnostic imaging technique. It is used to create an image of internal body structures such as tendons, muscles, joints, blood vessels, and internal organs. Its aim is often to find a source of a disease or to exclude pathology.

X-ray beams pass through your body, and they are absorbed in different amounts depending on the density of the material they pass through. Dense materials, such as bone and metal, show up as white on X-rays. The air in your lungs shows up as black. Fat and muscle appear as shades of gray.
